More time for television

I work with a guy who is also running the Oakland Marathon. I should clarify what I mean by “also.” I am running the half. He is running the full. His goal is to finish in the top ten. Overall.

The other day he asked me how my training was going. Answer – it’s not. It was going really well. I felt great last week and nailed all of my runs. But then we went out of town. As soon as we got back I got sick. And I haven’t been able to kick this thing.

I went to yoga once this week and felt like I was in a fog the whole time. I even did the wrong pose at one point.  (Talk about embarassing.)  It wasn’t exactly the March Yogathon kick-off I was hoping for.

I haven’t run since last Wednesday, and I’m kind of worried that I won’t remember how.  I’m also kind of freaking out about this setback with less than a month between me and the marathon.

  1. I know how you feel! I have been off/on sick and plus my ankle has been quite sore. The last time i ran was on Tuesday to let my ankle recover and been doing the elliptical to compensate (I can’t just sit around and do nothing!). I REALLY want to run a half marathon on St. Paddy’s day but not sure if the is going to happen now.

    I feel your pain!

  2. Ugh, I hate when I get sick when I shouldn’t. But don’t freak out: you can’t help being sick, but you’ve been doing your training and you’ll pick it up again when you feel better. It’s not like you’re trying to be in the top ten, right? 😉

  3. I’m sure you’ll still do great. Even if you come in last (which I’m sure you won’t!) that’s a half-marathon farther than a lot of us are doing!

  4. I know exactly where this comes from. I am kind of in the same situation too.. I hope you feel totally healthy really soon! And the running part will come along. 🙂

  5. You’ll be fine. Your body is probably LOVING this rest from running and when you’re well enough, you’ll be good as new!

    Take Care!!

  6. Any better yet? I felt the same when I had my hamstring injury. You will bounce back quicker then you think.

    Hope you’re feeling better soon!
