Back on the wagon

On Saturday I went for my first run (almost) post sickness. The verdict? Eh.

The run itself was great. I managed to con my friend Adam into an 8 mile run at an easy, conversational pace. I knew it would be tough to peel myself off the couch and recruited Adam so I couldn’t back out.  Everybody already knows this, but running with friends definitely makes the job easier.  It felt great to get back out there!


The only kind of disappointing part of the run came after the run.  The next day.  In my calves.  Don’t get me wrong.  I’m cool with sore muscles.  But given the the distance and the pace, I wouldn’t have predicted sore.  Long story short – I’m still kind of freaking out about the Oakland Half Marathon.

But enough about that.  We followed the run up with a trip to Lululemon.  Thank God for their yoga shorts because (OH MY GOD) the employees were obnoxious!  My favorite part was when the male salesman told me about “his favorite” sports bra.


Yoga shorts were followed by cupcakes, and cupcakes were followed by a little Berkeley Bowl.  I had never been before, and it was AMAZING!  I’ve never seen so much produce in my life! 


Cream cheese frosting and Brussels sprouts.  Can you imagine a better way to refuel after a run?

  1. I’ve never bought anything from lululemon either. It seems overpriced to me. Besides there’s not one cose by and I HATE buying stuff I can’t try on.

    • They are quite expensive. I haven’t bought any running gear, but their yoga shorts are such good quality. I have one pair from Target and I avoid them like the plague.

  2. I am in exactly the same position as you, trying to get back into running after the most horribly horrible flu known to mankind. It is a struggle but I believe (hope) it gets better. Just keep at it. And I am sure that half is not going to be a problem for you! 🙂

  3. Ha! How can a male have a fave sports bra?

    Was the ache a worrisome ache or a “I just ran after awhile off” ache”? Why are you worried about the half?

    Running with friends is so awesome. I am spoiled by the running club. I always want to run with them now!

    • I know, right?! Fortunately it was only a “I just ran after awhile off” ache. And I’m just worried I won’t do as well as I want to. Oh well, that’s life I suppose.

  4. I’m running the Oakland half as well! I did it last year and am trying to forget about the uphill finish…

    I wouldn’t worry about your last run though, the same thing happened to me (with the soreness after being sick) and I was back to pre-sickness running a week later. Just make sure not to push too hard before you’re 100%!

  5. Ha!! I got you hooked! Lululemon followed by Berkeley Bowl?? Sounds like heaven to me. Just remember, you get what you pay for. And besides you deserve it!
