Running into old friends

One of things I love about running is it brings people together.   I suppose the same could be said about any hobby…but my experience is with running so let’s focus on that.

Not only does it make for a good conversation piece, it also makes for a good something to do.

“I haven’t seen you in forever.  We should get together sometime and catch up!”
“Definitely!  What should we do?”
“Let’s go for a run!”

And there it is.  Something to do.

A little over a year ago Jason and I took a trip to Portland.  Just to check it out.  And while we were there I decided to run a 10K.  As luck would have it, one of my sorority sisters decided to run that same 10K.  I hadn’t seen her since college, and I didn’t even know she lived in Portland.

And then what do you know?  That same sorority sister made her way down to San Francisco last October to run the Nike Women’s Marathon, and I got to bump into her again.

If it weren’t for running, we might have lost touch FOREVER.  Eeeek!!! Now I know it’s just a matter of time before we happen to pick the same race (accidentally or not).  And I think that’s pretty cool.

I’m pretty sure she feels the same way…  She’s already trying to bump up the odds of a chance meeting by sucking another family member into running.  I mean, how could baby girl NOT become a runner with kicks like these?  Thanks Katie!

  1. What a sweetie for sending those! Adorable! And how cool that you bumped in to each other like that. I have randomly bumped in to people I know in other cities/states (than the ones we know each other from) and I always think it’s exciting!

  2. I couldn’t resist. They were too freakin cute! I’m pretty sure those little kicks would work perfectly for the pterodactyl trot. Elsha?

I am so excited for this little girl to arrive. Grant is envious that you get to become a “mad mom with a stroller blowing past people at races.”

    • I know, right?! They’re adorable! And I’m totally with you on the pterodactyl ptrot! We need to add another sorority sister to our race run-ins!

You can tell Grant he doesn’t need to be too jealous…pretty sure that stroller’s just gonna slow me down.

  3. These shoes are so cute! Your daughter is going to be like one of those kids who lap me for joke in their track workouts… I wish I had more runner friends. Run-ins during races seem to be fun.
