One of things I love about running is it brings people together. I suppose the same could be said about any hobby…but my experience is with running so let’s focus on that.
Not only does it make for a good conversation piece, it also makes for a good something to do.
“I haven’t seen you in forever. We should get together sometime and catch up!”
“Definitely! What should we do?”
“Let’s go for a run!”
And there it is. Something to do.
A little over a year ago Jason and I took a trip to Portland. Just to check it out. And while we were there I decided to run a 10K. As luck would have it, one of my sorority sisters decided to run that same 10K. I hadn’t seen her since college, and I didn’t even know she lived in Portland.
And then what do you know? That same sorority sister made her way down to San Francisco last October to run the Nike Women’s Marathon, and I got to bump into her again.
If it weren’t for running, we might have lost touch FOREVER. Eeeek!!! Now I know it’s just a matter of time before we happen to pick the same race (accidentally or not). And I think that’s pretty cool.
I’m pretty sure she feels the same way… She’s already trying to bump up the odds of a chance meeting by sucking another family member into running. I mean, how could baby girl NOT become a runner with kicks like these? Thanks Katie!
