Ruby Tuesday: Food edition

Ruby turns 5 months and 6 days today.

We started feeding her rice cereal about a month ago, and I think she’s starting to get the hang of it. “Getting the hang of it,” is of course, relative. I use this phrase mostly because she’s started to sort of attack the spoon.

She’s also taken a real interest in real people food. We often set this little chair on the table while we’re eating. Lately she’s lost interest in the ring of toys. Instead, she’ll peer over the edge of the attached tray at whatever we’re eating. A plate of strawberries had her completely mesmerized the other day. I held one up as if I was going to feed it to her to see what she would do. I’ve never seen her open her mouth so wide.

I’m also starting to wonder if she’s showing some early signs of teething. Since this is my first baby, I don’t really know what to look for, but she’s sucking the crap out of her lower lip. She’s also started chewing on it a bit with a slightly pained expression.

So it felt like time to get a high chair. It arrived in the mail today, was super easy to assemble and goes surprisingly well with our other furniture. Here she is giving it a test drive. And, no, we do not feed her plastic elephants.

  1. Go for the gold! Time for baby food! We LOVE those squeezable packs.. Way less mess. Addilyn totally sucks on her bottom lip all the time. I think for her it’s a comfort thing instead of a teething thing. The thing that totally sucks about teething is that I’m sure Ruby is, and will be for about the next YEAR! Gah, it lasts so long. I also love that she’s strapped in to her high chair. You’re so safe.

    • Could definitely be a comfort thing. Like I said, I don’t really know what I’m looking for. I’m guessing our pediatrician will give us the green light on food at her 6 month appointment so it’s not too far away!
