Ruby Wednesday: Real people food

Remember when I said I was going to blog every day until there came a day that I didn’t feel like blogging? Well, that happened yesterday. Actually, it wasn’t so much that I didn’t feel like blogging. It was more like I did feel like throwing up. Because of the migraine.

Fortunately, I’m feeling much better now. Unless, of course, I fall apart while attempting to run 16 miles tomorrow. In which case I will blame it on my Tuesday migraine. That’s reasonable, right?

Despite my sickness, Ruby was the one who went to the doctor. Last Thursday for her 6 month check-up. (Yes, yes, beautiful transition there. Thank you very much.) Her stats were:

Weight: 16 lb 5 oz, 55th percentile
Height: 25.75 in, 48th percentile
Head circumference: 43 cm, 65th percentile

I’m pretty sure the height measurement is wrong. Ruby was kicking around, and her feet were sticking out past the foot mark when the nurse made the head mark.

We got the green light to start feeding her real people food (as opposed to dog food or fake people food). So I whipped up some carrot mush yesterday, and this is how she felt about it.

We tried again today, with a bit more success. All it took was my complete and total absence. So now I just have to figure out how to feed her from the other room.

  1. 16 miles with a migraine? I can’t even do 16 steps on such days.

Also, I am eternally grateful that you didn’t post any photos of Ruby, her little table, and half of the living room splattered wish mashed vegetables. I never got why people think that this is the cutest photo they can make as soon as their babies start eating “real people food”. But I totally agree with Ruby’s opinion for mushy mush carrots. Maybe she’ll like better other vegetables better? Plus, there is this thing that babies need to try something 8 times until they make their minds whether they like it or not.

    • Oh neither could I. The migraine is totally gone. I don’t have as much as mild headache today. But I’m still going to blame any long run failures on it.

  2. Beautiful daughter! The carrot face is priceless. Bring on the cheerios. 🙂

Happy to have found your blog. Hope your headaches go away for good. They are no fun at all.

  3. She’s like, “What the crap is this?” haha. She’ll start liking it soon though. Or maybe try another vegetable. (I never waited the “appropriate” amount of time in between new foods.) And at 6 months, she weighs more than Addilyn at (almost) 11 months. Go Ruby! Or I guess Go Laura!

  4. Oh my. Your husband is hilarious! That sock thing must save a lot of time. 🙂 Sometimes I turn one of my L/R socks inside out just to have two socks on the correct feet.
